Larmour House

Constructed: 1875

Address: 1711 Rio Grande St

The Larmour House, a brick Victorian cottage built in 1875 by architect Jacob Larmour, was moved from 1909 Whitis in 1979 with help from the Heritage Society for use as an office. Larmour, originally from New Jersey, practiced architecture in New York before moving to Austin in 1871 after serving in the Civil War. He designed numerous buildings across Texas, including the 1875 Travis County Courthouse and several structures still standing on Congress Avenue. Larmour lived in the house until his death in 1901 and was named state architect by Governor Roberts in 1879.
