Dozier House
Constructed: 1925
Address: 1503 West Avenue
Built in 1924 by William Enoch Dozier and designed by architect Roy Thomas, this two-story English Tudor-style brick home was constructed on land formerly part of the Walker-Thomson farm. Dozier, a self-taught engineer and former city engineer of Temple, raised two daughters here before his death in 1930; his wife Minnie lived in the home until 1960. The property was sold in 1962 to Frances and Worth Beal, who operated a successful flooring and rental business and lived in the house with their daughter Lannette. The home features a full concrete basement and attic, and reflects Roy Thomas’s signature approach of designing each house in a unique architectural style.
