Goodall - Wooten House

Constructed: 1904

Address: 1900 Rio Grande Street

The Goodall Wooten House, built between 1898 and 1900 in Austin, Texas, was designed in Classical Revival style by Dr. Goodall H. Wooten and his wife Ella and is known for its elegant gardens. The three-story mansion has served various functions over time, including a student residence hall, a chemical dependency treatment center, and luxury hotels, currently operating as Hotel Ella. After a major 1910 renovation, the house expanded and was redecorated by Neiman-Marcus, marking their first Austin project. Goodall Wooten died in 1942, and Ella sold the house in 1944; it later served as a dormitory until 1979, then a rehab center until 1999, before reopening as a hotel in 2013.
