Denny - Holliday House
Constructed: 1880
Address: 1803 West Avenue
Built between 1869 and 1871 for Eva and Charles Denny, this limestone cottage originally faced east and was later enlarged after Eva’s death. In 1906, Mrs. N.L. Holliday added a second story and north-facing entry, and her daughter Dr. Margaret Holliday and husband Dr. Simon Clark remodeled the home extensively, incorporating master woodwork by Peter Mansbendel. The house featured oak flooring, stuccoed exterior, a curved staircase, and multiple fireplaces, but Margaret died in 1921 after contracting the flu; Dr. Clark sold the home in 1926. The Alpha Delta Pi Sorority owned the house from 1927–1943, and it was later restored by the Moyer family, who received a Heritage Society award for their renovation in 1978.
