St David's Rectory

Constructed: 1910

Address: 1603 Pearl Street

Lots 10 and 11 were first sold in 1850 and eventually came into the possession of Rev. Charles Gillette, who was rector of Christ Episcopal Church, a precursor to St. David’s. In 1909, W.T. Watt gave Lot 10 to his daughter Annie Watt McClendon as a wedding gift, and she and her husband Judge James McClendon built a rent house at 1603 Pearl around 1910, likely living there temporarily. After changing hands a few times, the home was conveyed in 1916 to Bishop Kinsolving as the rectory for St. David’s Church. Notable figures include Judge McClendon, Dudley K. Woodward (future UT regent), and Bishop Kinsolving.
